2007/9/19-Esperenza Rising

  • what happened  -> Esparanza, her mother, and other servants were riding a train to go to the United States.  Esparanza saw a lot of peasants who are very poor. She was not a peasant but lived in a high class, therefore, she was unfamiliar with the peasants with a dirty face. When she looked at outside, whatever she saw made her to think about her family, father, and good memories in her hometown, the little girl who was peasant was having Esperanza’s important doll which father gave her. She could give the doll to the little girl but this doll was not allowed because it was her father’s last present. Suddenly she cried so Esperanza’s mom made the little doll for the little girl and she suddenly smiled. Also they met a woman who lost her husband like Esperanza’s mom and they talked about all the thing and shared their hard time. Esperanza experienced a lot of things.
  • what will happen next?  ->They will arrive at the United State, but I think their uncle will find them and punish them.
  • how did you feel about the parts you have just read? ->It was interesting and the emotion of Esperanza was very realistic to me.
  • if there is anything to change, how would you change it?  ->I would put one girl who’s age is same as Esperanza’s. Therefore, they can play each other in the boring train.
  • might want to ask the writer or the characters in the story?  ->I want to ask Esperanza’s mother how do you feel like when you try to run away from your father’s brother ?
